How to Apply for UDI Visiting Fellow Program at UTS

How to Apply

1. Read the UDI Visiting Fellow program’s Eligibility Criteria, UDI Fellowship Overview – Download and UDI Visiting Fellow Program Guidelines – Download

2. Define your research project topic, outline the planned outcomes of your visit, and agree on the content of the Application.

3. View the UDI_UTS_Application_Form and prepare all the necessary documents for submission:

  • Completed application form

  • Applicant’s CV, including a list of publications and/or professional activities.

  • 1-2 page description and the title of the planned research project. 

  • 2 reference letters.

4. Submit completed application and all the necessary documents to the relevant department at your university in Ukraine or to team@ukrainedemocracy.org.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for fellowship must have an institutional affiliation to a UTS University Partner in Ukraine (Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (KNU) or National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine and working to complete their MA, PhD degree or be an early career researcher (having research experience and publications).

Applicant’s research project should align with the UDI’s and UTS’s School of Communication key research areas:

  • Politics, society and the environment

  • Branding, PR and industry evaluation

  • Journalism and communication

  • Digital and social media, screen and sound studies

  • History and creative Writing

The research case study can be Ukraine and/or it can be comparative.  

Selection Criteria

The criteria for assessing applications include academic distinction demonstrated by the standard measures of academic level, place of appointment, record of publication, honours and awards; the relevance of the proposed research to the work of UDI and UTS; reference letters.

 Applications from MA, PhD students to early-career academics are strongly encouraged.

UDI and UTS strives, in its selection process, to have a mixture of MA, PhD research students with early career scholars, and to achieve a gender balance. UDI and UTS does not discriminate for or against any applicant on the basis of race, colour, sex, religion, political opinion, age, medical record, marital status, impairment, disability, or sexual preference.

Selection committee consisting of 4 members will meet to discuss the applications and choose the top 3 candidates. The selection committee will include 1 representative from USFA Board of Directors, UDI Director and 2 academics from UTS (including Head of School of Communication).

Candidates will be notified via email about the success of their application.

Key Dates

The key dates for the 2020 (round 1) applications are:

  • Applications open: 1st November 2019

  • Submission of applications close: 25 December 2019

  • Results announcement: 1st March 2020

  • Visits to take place between July and November 2020
