Dr. Liudmila Kirpitchenko is Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University. In 2015, she completed an Endeavour Research Fellowship as a Visiting Scholar at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Originally from Ukraine, Liudmila has a PhD in Sociology (Monash University, Australia), M.A. in Central/East European and Russian Area Studies (Carleton University, Canada) and B.A. Highest Honours in Languages (Kiev National Linguistic University, Ukraine).

Liudmila published journal articles on academic mobility, intercultural encounters, skilled migration, cosmopolitanism, social inclusion and active citizenship in Comparative Sociology, Journal of Intercultural Communication, Cosmopolitan Civil Societies Journal, International Journal of Social Inclusion, Australian and New Zealand Journal of European Studies, and Social Identities: Journal for the Study of Race, Nation and Culture.

She authored a book based on her doctoral research Academic Mobility and Intercultural Dialogue in Australia, Canada and Italy (2011, LAP) and co-edited a volume Insider Research on Migration and Mobility: International Perspectives on Researcher Positioning (with Voloder, 2014, Ashgate). Liudmila co-authored chapters on paired interviewing (with Lohm) and insider research (with Voloder) for an edited collection SAGE Cases in Methodology (2014). In 2013-2014, Liudmila served as a co-convenor of the Migration, Ethnicity and Multiculturalism Thematic Group of The Australian Sociological Association (TASA).
