ABOUT
Olya Homonchuk is a PhD (DPhil) Candidate in Social Policy and a Clarendon Scholar at the University of Oxford, UK. Olya holds an MSc from the University of Oxford in Comparative Social Policy, funded by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, and a BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, US.
Olya’s research interests focus on conceptualisation, measurement and experience of poverty and inequality. Her doctoral project is investigating the relationship between subjective and objective poverty in Ukraine. Her research is mainly qualitative, using in-depth interviews and participatory methodology.
Prior to her DPhil work, Olya worked as an analysis rapporteur at Oxford Analytica, research assistant at the Cornell Institute for Compensation Studies and as paralegal at Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller and Shah, LLP.
Additionally, Olya has served in multiple leadership positions, including the president of the Oxford University Ukrainian Society and the chapter president of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, and volunteered over 800 hours for different community-based organizations. Her efforts to benefit society beyond academia have been recognized by the Guistwhite Scholarship and a mention on the All-USA Academic Team.
